Murray Garber, CEO, had steered the Agency for over 30 years with consistent and careful judgment, and prepared the Agency to meet the myriad challenges facing its clients and the insurance industry. Murray since retired in 2000 and the Agency has continued to grow and prepare for the next generation with the addition of Steven Garber in 1982. Steven Garber, CIC, has contributed indelibly to the Agency's success through his modern, second-generation vision, superior technical expertise, and automation of the Agency with the latest state-of-the-art equipment—so vital in this technological age. Steven, now President of GAF, has developed expertise in handling a variety of accounts including but not limited to complicated real estate entities, and garment related accounts.
In 1991, Atlas Brokerage, a company founded by David Hammerman in 1952, joined forces with the Garbers, and significantly expanded the agency. David Hammerman, as Vice President of GAF brings to the Company his many years of experience in the industry, as well as specialties in real estate, finance, and all phases of insurance.
In 1997, Stuart Fries, CIC, and Justin B. Fries, CPCU, CIC, joined the organization and formed Garber Atlas Fries & Associates Inc.. This father and son team brought with them a well respected and established agency. Stuart Fries, CIC and Vice President of GAF has been in the business for over 50 years and has served in many capacities, including his current position as a “public member” of the NY Automobile Insurance Plan Governing Committee, a position he is appointed to by the Superintendent of Insurance of NY.
Justin B. Fries, CPCU, CIC, has been in the business since 1988 and is now the “third generation” of Fries’ to continue the insurance tradition. Justin, a graduate of Cornell University, has been trained by several of the major insurance companies and brings a fresh perspective to the industry. Justin has obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor designation as well as the prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter degree and currently serves as Vice President of GAF. He has also served as President of two of the local insurance trade organizations and is currently on the Board of Directors for several other insurance organizations.
Over the past few years, other insurance professionals have joined the firm, and have used its expertise and facilities to provide excellent insurance services for their clientèle. Michael Levine, V.P., was President of Sugarman-Levine Agencies, Inc., a full service agency before joining the “Garber Atlas Fries Team” in 2005. Michael, a graduate of Northeastern University has been in the insurance business since 1986 and also follows as “Second Generation” to a long family tradition in the insurance industry. Like his Dad, Larry, he still stresses that he provide excellent service and insurance knowledge to his clients. He also has served as President of Tri-County Independent Insurance Agents Association.
